INEC Assures of Credible, Glitch-Free Election in Anambra

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its readiness to deliver a credible and transparent governorship election in Anambra State on Saturday.

INEC’s Supervising National Commissioner, Ken Ukeagu, gave the assurance on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, noting that all logistics and technical arrangements have been completed.

“Our mandate is to give Nigerians and Anambra people in particular, fair, credible, and inclusive elections, and that is exactly what we are going to do tomorrow,” Ukeagu stated.

Responding to concerns about past challenges such as late deployment of materials, BVAS malfunction, and other logistical delays, Ukeagu said the commission had taken measures to prevent a repeat.

“There will be no glitches, no technical problems. Materials and personnel will arrive early at the polling units. We are fully prepared to give Anambra people a credible election,” he affirmed.

He added that INEC had also made provisions for a possible runoff in line with the law. “We are preparing for a runoff. Where no candidate meets the legal requirements, we’ll conduct a second round of voting,” he explained.

Ukeagu confirmed that election materials had been moved to Registration Area Centres (RACs) across the state, with vehicles and staff on standby for early deployment.

“The materials are already at the RACs. We moved them to the local government areas yesterday, most RACs are activated, and vehicles have been delivered. By tomorrow morning, they’ll be at the polling units waiting for voters,” he said.

Security agencies and election observers have also concluded their final preparations ahead of the keenly contested poll.
