Political Parties Finalise Candidate Lists Ahead of INEC Nomination Deadline

Political parties are making final preparations to submit candidates for the 2027 general elections as the Independent National Electoral Commission prepares to open its nomination portal.

INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, said access codes will be issued to parties on June 26, while candidate details must be uploaded between June 27 and July 11.

The commission also expressed concern over unresolved party disputes and ongoing court cases challenging parts of its electoral timetable, warning that such issues could affect election preparations.

Major parties, including the African Democratic Congress, Labour Party and Social Democratic Party, said they are on course to meet the deadline, although some are still resolving post-primary grievances.

While the Nigerian Democratic Congress has unveiled its presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Musa Kwankwaso, the Labour Party, SDP and ADC are still consulting on their vice-presidential candidates.
