Activities were disrupted at the Delta State Secretariat in Asaba on Friday, September 25, 2026, following the death of a Deputy Director in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Unity Adeda.
Adeda’s colleagues alleged that he was assaulted and restrained during an incident involving the Commissioner for Secondary Education before he was taken to hospital, where he later died.
The allegations have not been independently verified.

The development sparked protests at the Secretariat, with workers demanding justice and accountability over the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state joined the protesting workers and announced the indefinite closure of the Secretariat complex. He directed workers to stay away from the premises until the matter is resolved.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads and Public Information, accompanied by other members of the State Executive Council, appealed for calm.
The government representatives assured the workers that the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death would be properly addressed and that justice would be pursued.
