The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Nguru, Yobe State, Professor Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, has lost her twin daughters, Dr Hadiyah Usman Abdullahi and Aidah Usman Abdullahi, just two days apart.
Hadiyah, a medical doctor, died on Friday, October 2, 2026, while her twin sister, Aidah, a pharmacist, died on Sunday, October 4. Both deaths were linked to complications associated with sickle cell disease.

Hadiyah had been receiving treatment at FMC Nguru for about a week after suffering a sickle cell crisis. She was buried on Friday following funeral prayers at the Emir’s Palace.
Aidah was reportedly receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital around the same period and was said to have recovered and been discharged.
However, two days after attending her twin sister’s burial, Aidah visited Hadiyah’s grave. She reportedly fainted shortly after the visit and was rushed to hospital, where she later died.
FMC Nguru confirmed Aidah’s death in a post on its Facebook page, describing her as the “second twin” of Professor Usman
