The League of Veteran Journalists (LVJ), Ekiti State Chapter, has called for stronger collaboration between government and the media to promote accountable governance and development.
The call was made on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti during the maiden investiture of the League’s Grand Patron and Patrons.
The event, themed “Celebrate Service, Journalism and Legacy,” saw Governor Biodun Oyebanji decorated as the Grand Patron.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Oyebanji thanked the League for the honour.
He said a strong relationship between government and the media was important to the development and public image of Ekiti State.

Oyebode also commended veteran journalists for their contributions to journalism and their role in informing the public about government activities.
He urged journalists to continue reporting government policies and programmes accurately and responsibly.
The Chairman of the LVJ, Ekiti Chapter, Prince Kayode Oni, said the investiture was aimed at recognising service and preserving the history of journalism in the state.

Oni noted that veteran journalists worked in an era with limited technology but maintained strong professional standards.
He called on government, organisations, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to support the League in preserving journalism’s history and mentoring younger practitioners.
Other patrons honoured at the event included Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Senator Clement Adeyeye, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Oba Stephen Alabi, Oba Moses Ogundana and Oba Samuel Adejimi Adu-Alagbado.
