One person has been killed following a clash between Davido’s security personnel and suspected thugs during Governor Ademola Adeleke’s visit to the Ataoja of Osogbo’s palace in Osun State.
The governor had visited the monarch alongside his nephew, Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, when gunshots erupted outside the palace.
According to the Osun State Police Command, the incident began after a known political thug, Adebayo Taoreed, popularly called “Small Rugged,” was allegedly stopped by Davido’s security personnel while attempting to gain access to the singer.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the incident attracted more members of the suspected cult group, who allegedly attempted to overpower Davido’s security team.
The confrontation reportedly escalated into an exchange of gunfire, forcing the security personnel to fire into the air and use tear gas to disperse the thugs.
Ojelabi said the suspected thugs temporarily blocked the entrance to the palace but were eventually overpowered, allowing Adeleke’s convoy to leave the scene with Davido.
He added that the group later moved towards the Ayepe area, where they allegedly shot 60-year-old Tajudeen Yusuf at Ita-Olokan, Osogbo.
The victim was reportedly killed in the incident.
Davido, reacting to the clash on X, said the fight occurred outside the palace and had nothing to do with him or the governor.
“It was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with us! The pple love excellency!” he wrote.
The police have commenced an investigation into the incident, while the Police Commissioner in charge of election duties, Samuel Etaifo, said resources would be deployed to apprehend those responsible.
