Police, EFCC Probe Blessing CEO Over Alleged Fraud, Forgery

Social media personality, Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, is under investigation by the police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of fraud and forgery.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed it received a petition, while the EFCC said it has begun reviewing claims of financial misconduct linked to the influencer.

The probe follows accusations that Okoro falsified a cancer diagnosis and allegedly used a doctored medical report to solicit donations from the public.

Police spokesperson in Delta, Edefa Bright, said authorities are awaiting statements from complainants before proceeding with investigations. EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, also confirmed the petition, noting that findings will determine the agency’s next steps.

The controversy began after Okoro claimed she was battling cancer, attracting sympathy and financial support. However, inconsistencies in her narrative raised doubts about the authenticity of the diagnosis.

The Nigerian Medical Association in Delta State later disowned the histology report, stating it originally belonged to a breast cancer survivor, Deborah Mbara, who accused Okoro of altering the document to raise funds.

In a recent interview, Okoro withdrew her claim of having stage four cancer and admitted to raising N13 million, but maintained she owed no apology.

Mbara, through her lawyer, Sunny Anyanwu, has since petitioned the EFCC, alleging violations of the Cybercrime Act, 2015, and other relevant laws, while demanding accountability and a refund of the funds.
