France captain Kylian Mbappe has moved ahead of Argentina’s Lionel Messi in the race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup adidas Golden Boot despite both players scoring eight goals.
Mbappe reclaimed the lead after netting in France’s quarter-final win over Morocco, taking his tournament tally to eight goals and three assists. Messi also has eight goals but has provided two assists, placing him second in the standings.
Norway’s Erling Haaland is third with seven goals, while England duo Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane have six goals and one assist each.
According to FIFA, the Golden Boot is awarded to the tournament’s top scorer. If players finish level on goals, assists are used as the first tiebreaker. Should they remain tied, the player with fewer minutes played will be ranked higher.
