South Korea began their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign on a winning note after coming from behind to beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in their Group A opener on Friday.
The Czechs took the lead through Ladislav Krejci early in the second half, but South Korea responded strongly. Hwang In-beom levelled the score before setting up substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu for the winning goal in the 80th minute.
Despite an off day in front of goal for captain Son Heung-min, the Koreans dominated large spells of the match and showed resilience to secure all three points.
The victory puts South Korea alongside Mexico at the top of Group A and boosts their hopes of reaching the knockout stage.
