Peter Obi dumps ADC over internal crisis

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing growing internal crises and Nigeria’s worsening political climate.

In a statement shared on Sunday via X, Obi said the decision came after deep reflection and the “silent pains” he had endured while navigating the country’s political space.

He described Nigeria’s system as increasingly toxic, marked by insecurity, intimidation, suspicion, and discouragement, which he said often frustrate genuine public service.

According to Obi, he also faced unfair criticism and pressure within political circles he once joined in pursuit of reform and collective progress.

He clarified that his exit was not due to personal issues with ADC leaders, including former Senate President David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he said he still respects.

Obi said his decision was instead driven by recurring legal disputes, internal conflicts, and political divisions that have distracted the party from addressing pressing national issues.

He stressed that he is not desperate for political office but remains committed to seeing a Nigeria where citizens can live without hunger, fear, or displacement.

Reaffirming his optimism, Obi declared that “a new Nigeria is possible.”
