President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, ending the operations of the 25-year-old body established during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
The President also directed that all responsibilities previously handled by the committee be transferred to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the dissolution took effect from November 5, 2025. The committee’s secretary, B. S. Dutsin-Ma, was instructed to immediately stop acting on behalf of the committee and the Federal Government in all related matters.
The Presidency said the decision followed a review which found that the committee had exceeded its original mandate, leading to numerous court cases across the country and rendering its continued existence unnecessary.
Established in 2000, the committee was created to oversee the sale, lease and privatisation of Federal Government landed assets under the Obasanjo administration’s monetisation policy. While the policy was designed to convert government-owned assets into revenue and reduce official perks, its implementation became mired in disputes over property valuations, alleged irregular sales and prolonged litigation.
