Spain booked their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Portugal in Monday’s Round of 16 clash.
After a tense first half ended goalless, both sides created chances, but Spain eventually found the breakthrough late in the contest to seal progression. Portugal pushed for an equaliser but failed to breach Spain’s disciplined defence.
The defeat ends Portugal’s World Cup campaign, while Spain advance to the last eight, where they will face the winner of the United States vs Belgium tie.
