Lagos Couple Arrested Over Death of Adopted Daughter

A couple in Igando, Lagos State, has been arrested over the death of their 10-year-old adopted daughter, Faith, following allegations of prolonged abuse.

The suspects, identified as Paul Onyeama and Adline Ogbonna, were accused by residents of repeatedly assaulting the child and forcing her to carry out strenuous tasks despite reportedly being ill for weeks.

Residents alleged the child was beaten on Sunday before being taken to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead on arrival.

A source said neighbours became suspicious after not seeing the girl and later discovered she had died.

The incident was reported to the police at Igando Division, leading to the arrest of both suspects.

A police source told Punch that preliminary findings suggest the child was already dead before she was taken to the hospital.
