Senate Orders Crackdown on Bandits Flaunting Crimes on TikTok

The Senate has called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track and arrest bandits and terrorists who openly display their activities and illicit wealth on social media platforms, especially TikTok.

The resolution followed a motion by Senator Sunday Karimi on worsening insecurity in Kogi West. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan urged the Nigerian Police Force National Cybercrime Centre and other agencies to monitor and apprehend criminals using social media to publicise their operations.

She alleged that bandits recently distributed over ₦100 million through online giveaways, questioning why security agencies had failed to act despite the suspects’ visible digital presence.

Supporting the call, Senate President Godswill Akpabio described the online displays as a show of impunity and a challenge to government authority. He urged security and intelligence agencies to prioritise tracking such suspects, ensure their arrest and prosecution, and keep Nigerians informed of enforcement actions.
