A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing recent political developments and the need to realign his political future.
Gwarzo announced his resignation in a letter dated May 1, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the party in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, stating that his decision takes immediate effect.
According to him, the move followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders across the state.

He said the evolving political climate made it necessary for him to review his membership in the party and chart a new direction in line with his vision for governance and democratic values.
Gwarzo noted that his decision was driven by patriotic considerations and a commitment to pursuing a political path focused on good governance, sustainable development, and the future of Kano State and Nigeria.

The former deputy governor also appreciated the leadership and members of the ADC for their support, cooperation, and respect during his time in the party.
He did not reveal his next political move, though his resignation comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections that saw aspiring presidential candidate, Peter Obi also dump the party.
