Asake: I Left Home at 15 After Father Opposed My Music Dream

Nigerian music star Asake has revealed that he left his father’s house at age 15 after being discouraged from pursuing music.

In an interview with Korty EO, the “Sungba” crooner said his father strongly opposed his ambitions, prompting him to leave home in determination to follow his path.

Despite the disagreement, the singer said his love and respect for his father remain unwavering, stressing that nothing could change their bond.

Asake noted that he holds both parents in high regard, even as he has recently shown appreciation through generous gestures, including gifting his mother a car and reportedly presenting his father with a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.

The revelation comes months after a public family controversy involving his father, Fatai Ololade, who had appealed for financial help over health challenges. The situation later eased after the singer reportedly stepped in to support his father’s medical care and welfare.
