The Ekiti State Police Command has denied reports that it recognised Hon. Ilesanmi Omolayo as the authentic Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.
The Command described the report as “false, baseless and misleading,” saying the Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, did not endorse any faction of the party.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the Command said both ADC factions separately petitioned the Commissioner on August 25 and 26 over the party’s leadership dispute and the alleged occupation of its secretariat.

The factions, led by Omolayo and Dr. Bamidele Ekunola, were subsequently invited to a meeting with the Commissioner on August 31.
The police said the Commissioner listened to both sides and urged them to maintain peace, avoid actions capable of disrupting public order and seek legal redress where necessary.
Both factions reportedly agreed to maintain peace and signed written undertakings to explore ways of resolving the dispute.
The Command stressed that the Commissioner of Police never recognised, endorsed or declared either faction as the legitimate leadership of the ADC in Ekiti.
The police urged members of the public to disregard the report and warned political actors against spreading unverified information capable of causing tension in the state.
