Breaking: Kidnapped Oyo Schoolchildren, Teachers Regain Freedom

The schoolchildren and teachers abducted by suspected bandits in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after spending nearly two months in captivity.

The development was announced on Friday by President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed that all the abducted pupils and teachers had been rescued by security agencies. He also shared a message of appreciation from one of the rescued teachers to President Tinubu and the security operatives involved in the operation.

The victims were abducted on May 15 when gunmen attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, kidnapping 39 pupils and seven teachers. The incident sparked widespread outrage, protests and sustained rescue efforts by security agencies. One of the kidnapped teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was killed by the abductors shortly after the attack.

Authorities are yet to provide further details on the rescue operation or the condition of the freed victims.
