Fresh Plateau Killings Raise Questions Over Tinubu’s Peace Visit

Fresh violence has erupted in Plateau State less than 24 hours after Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited the state to reassure residents and victims of recent attacks.

Suspected terrorists from the Rankum (Mahanga) area reportedly attacked Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area on Friday morning, killing 51-year-old Dalyop Betobeje.

The latest incident came after another deadly attack in Heipang District of Bassa Local Government Area, where the Berom Youth Moulders Association said suspected herdsmen stormed Ban village on Wednesday night, killing a secondary school student, Gloria Godwin, injuring others and destroying property.

Police sources confirmed the incident and said investigations had begun, while efforts were ongoing to arrest those responsible.

Chairman of BYM in Heipang District, Jacob Pam Chall, praised the response of security operatives and called for a thorough investigation.

“It is imperative that security agencies sustain this momentum and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. Our communities deserve safety and peace,” he said.

President Tinubu had assured residents during his visit that the cycle of violence would end, but the renewed attacks in Riyom and Heipang have cast doubt on those promises.
