SSANU Threatens Indefinite Strike Over Delayed Renegotiation, Unpaid Salaries

The National Executive Council of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has threatened to begin an indefinite nationwide strike within 30 days if the Federal Government fails to conclude renegotiation with non-teaching unions in public universities.

The warning was issued at the end of the union’s 54th National Executive Council meeting held at Ekiti State University.

In a communiqué signed after the meeting, SSANU condemned the slow pace of the ongoing renegotiation process and warned that it could shut down administrative operations across Nigerian universities if the government fails to act before the end of April.

The union also raised concerns over delayed salary payments in federal and some state universities, as well as the refusal to implement approved salary increments and other entitlements.

SSANU called on the Federal Government to immediately clear all outstanding salaries and adopt a unified payment structure for university workers.

Speaking after the meeting, SSANU National President, Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, warned that the union would no longer tolerate delays.

“We cannot continue to watch our members suffer unpaid salaries, withheld entitlements and endless delays in renegotiation,” he said.

“If the government fails to act before the end of April, we will have no option than to commence an indefinite nationwide strike.”
