Iran on Saturday warned it would respond “decisively” after the United States and Israel launched strikes on its territory, despite ongoing talks over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
In a statement, Iran’s foreign ministry said the country had done “everything necessary to prevent war” but was now fully prepared to defend itself. “The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will respond decisively to the aggressors,” it declared.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it had begun a “first wave” of missile and drone attacks against Israel, describing the offensive as targeting the “occupied territories.”
The escalation spilled into Iraq, where airstrikes hit the Jurf al-Nasr (Jurf al-Sakher) base in southern Iraq. The facility is controlled by the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), a state-integrated security network that includes the Iran-backed Kataeb Hezbollah.
Iraqi authorities confirmed at least two people were killed and three others wounded in the strike. A Kataeb Hezbollah source said two of its members were among the dead, with five others injured.
It remains unclear whether the base was struck by US or Israeli forces. The US-blacklisted group had earlier warned Washington of “immense losses” if a broader regional war erupts.
