ADC Picks Najeem Salaam as Osun Governorship Candidate for 2026

A former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Najeem Salaam, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Salaam secured the party’s ticket at the ADC governorship primary held on Monday at the Ultimate Civic Centre, Osogbo, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Speaking before the primary, the Chairman of the ADC 2026 Primary Election Committee, Mr Emeka Nwajiuba, disclosed that Salaam was the sole aspirant cleared to contest for the party’s ticket.

Nwajiuba explained that records from the party’s organising secretary and the outcome of the screening exercise confirmed Salaam as the only qualified aspirant.

A total of 528 delegates drawn from the state’s 332 wards participated in the exercise. Of the votes cast, 520 were valid votes in favour of Salaam, while eight were declared void.

Announcing the result, Nwajiuba formally declared Salaam as the ADC’s candidate and flag bearer for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.

In his acceptance speech, Salaam expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him, describing the mandate as both a responsibility and a call to service.

He said he accepted the nomination with hope, prayer, and a commitment to address the challenges facing the people of Osun State.
