Woman Jailed for Blackmailing Son Heung-min Over Fake Pregnancy Claim

A South Korean court has sentenced a woman who blackmailed football star Son Heung-min to four years in prison, according to reports from Yonhap News TV.

The Seoul Central District Court found the woman, identified only by her surname Yang and said to be in her 20s, guilty of extortion. A second defendant, a man identified as Yong, received a two-year sentence for attempted blackmail. Both have been in detention since May.

Prosecutors told the court that Yang had extorted 300 million won (about $200,000) from Son in 2024 after sending him an ultrasound image and threatening to publicly claim she was pregnant with his child. Local reports said she allegedly spent the money on luxury items and designer goods.

This year, Yang—acting with Yong—attempted to extract an additional 70 million won from the Premier League forward, prompting Son to alert authorities. Their arrest and subsequent indictment followed shortly after the report.

Son appeared in a closed court session last month to testify as a witness, according to local media.
