Remi Tinubu Inaugurates Gender and Public Policy Studies Centre at NIPSS, Donates ₦250m

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday inaugurated the Oluremi Tinubu Gender and Public Policy Studies Centre at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, urging men and women to work together to break gender stereotypes.

“The establishment of this Gender Centre represents a bold step toward bringing gender issues to the forefront of every facet of our society to achieve true equity,” she said.

In a statement signed by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady emphasized that inclusion must be a shared national agenda, noting that “actual progress will come when both genders stand as allies, working together to dismantle stereotypes, open opportunities, and strengthen our collective humanity.”

Mrs Tinubu commended participants of Senior Executive Course 45, who conceived, funded, and executed the project, describing it as “a lasting legacy on our nation’s policy landscape.”

She highlighted that the Centre aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to harness “the full potential of all citizens, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, or economic status.” To support its take-off, the First Lady announced a ₦250 million donation to the Centre.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang praised the initiative, expressing hope that the Centre will enrich discussions on women’s representation in governance, while NIPSS Board Chair and former Senate President Ken Nnamani lauded the decision to name the facility after Mrs Tinubu, calling her a “go-getter.” He also urged urgent refurbishment of the Institute’s ageing infrastructure as it approaches its 50th anniversary.
