Ekiti APC governorship aspirant arraigned over alleged blackmail, death threats

An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in the 2026 Ekiti election, Abimbola Jumoke Olawumi, has been arraigned before an Ekiti Magistrate Court over alleged blackmail, cyberbullying, death threats and false accusations against YSJ Limited CEO, Yemisi Joluwe.

Olawumi pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge, which alleges she posted threatening messages alongside the photographs and addresses of three individuals on Facebook and TikTok and falsely accused Joluwe of embezzling Ekiti State Government funds.

Police prosecutor Samson Osobu said the prosecution did not oppose her bail application. Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted Olawumi bail on self-recognition and adjourned the case until July 28, 2026.

Speaking after the proceedings, Joluwe said she resorted to legal action after exhausting other avenues to address alleged intimidation and harassment. Defence counsel Ayokunle Odunayo Okunade maintained that the charges were bailable and said the court also considered Olawumi’s status as a senior citizen and political figure in granting bail
