Tony Elumelu to Retire as UBA Chairman After 12 Years

United Bank for Africa Plc has announced that its Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, will retire from the board on August 21, 2026, after completing the Central Bank of Nigeria’s maximum 12-year tenure for non-executive directors.

The bank also announced Emmanuel Nnorom as its incoming Group Chairman, with his appointment taking effect on the same day.

UBA said Elumelu’s leadership drove its expansion to 20 African countries and four global financial centres, serving over 50 million customers.

In his farewell message, Elumelu described his exit as the start of a new chapter for the bank, expressing confidence in Nnorom’s leadership and urging stakeholders to support his successor.
