APC races to beat INEC deadline as Tinubu yet to name running mate
With the July 11 deadline for presidential nominations drawing closer, the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is on track to complete the submission of its candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), despite President Bola Tinubu yet to announce his running mate.
Party sources said the APC had already uploaded several National Assembly candidates, including the senatorial nomination forms of Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Hope Uzodimma (Imo) and Mai Mala Buni (Yobe).
The sources expressed confidence that Tinubu’s nomination and that of his running mate would be submitted before the deadline, adding that the party could still replace a vice-presidential nominee before the August 22 substitution deadline if necessary.
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have already uploaded the presidential tickets of Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, respectively.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also disclosed that it had completed about 60 per cent of the upload of its National Assembly candidates, with the remaining entries expected to be submitted before the close of the exercise.
