Brazil Held by Morocco in World Cup Opener

Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco in their opening Group C match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Morocco stunned the five-time world champions by taking the lead in the 21st minute through Ismael Saibari, who calmly lifted the ball over goalkeeper Alisson after being set up by Brahim Diaz.

Brazil responded 11 minutes later when Vinicius Junior produced a moment of brilliance, cutting in from the left before curling a superb strike into the roof of the net to level the score.

Despite improving after the break under coach Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil failed to find a winner as Morocco’s disciplined defence and goalkeeper Yassine Bounou stood firm.

The result leaves Group C wide open, with both sides earning a point from their first match. Brazil will face Haiti next, while Morocco take on Scotland.
