President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State following the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area.
The President also ordered the deployment of a specialised rescue team to intensify efforts to secure the victims’ release.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga disclosed this in a statement on Sunday after a Federal Government delegation visited Esiele and Yawota communities.

Gunmen abducted teachers and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School on May 15.
According to the statement, the forest guards will be recruited in partnership with the Oyo State Government to strengthen security in the affected communities.
The delegation was led by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila. Other members included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, and Presidential Adviser Sunday Dare.
The officials conveyed Tinubu’s concern over the incident and reassured residents of the government’s commitment to securing the victims’ safe return.
They also informed community leaders that the request for a military base in the area would be forwarded to the President for consideration.
Gbajabiamila said the deployment of senior security officials showed Tinubu’s determination to use every available resource to rescue the abducted teachers and pupils.
