Retired Army General, Wife Abducted by Gunmen in Katsina

Suspected armed bandits have abducted retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife in Katsina State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday along the Katsina–Matazu Road while the retired senior military officer and his wife were travelling.

According to sources, armed men intercepted their vehicle in Matazu Local Government Area and whisked the couple away to an unknown destination.

The driver conveying them reportedly escaped with a gunshot wound.

Major General Abubakar (retd.) served as Director of Defence Information and was a prominent figure in military communications during his years in service.

The abduction has heightened concerns over the worsening security situation in Nigeria’s North-West region, particularly in Katsina State, where cases of kidnapping and armed attacks continue to pose a threat to residents and travellers.

The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing the country despite ongoing military operations against criminal groups.

Efforts to obtain an official response from military authorities were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
