At least 64 people have been killed and more than 100 injured after two high-speed trains collided in central Spain on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
The crash occurred near Urda, in the Toledo province, about 130 kilometres south of Madrid, involving trains operated by state-owned Renfe and private railway company Iryo.
According to reports, the Renfe train struck the rear of an Iryo train. The collision derailed several carriages, leaving wreckage scattered around the railway line.

Emergency workers, including firefighters, police and medical teams, were deployed to rescue survivors and recover victims. Authorities warned that the death toll could rise as rescue operations continued.
More than 100 people were reported injured, with several receiving hospital treatment. The cause of the collision remained under investigation.
The accident is Spain’s second major deadly high-speed train disaster this year, raising renewed concerns about railway safety.
