Facebook and TikTok have been inaccessible in Equatorial Guinea for more than two weeks following a viral video accusing the country’s vice-president of corruption.
The social media platforms have reportedly been blocked since early September, forcing users to rely on virtual private networks (VPNs) to access them.

Internet speeds have also been restricted since September 2, while WhatsApp and Instagram remain limited but operational.
The shutdown followed a video by a young woman accusing Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue of corruption. She was subsequently arrested by authorities.
The government has not publicly confirmed the reason for blocking the platforms.
Equatorial Guinea has been ruled by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo since 1979 and has faced criticism over restrictions on civil liberties.
