FG Denies Approving Adire as New NYSC Uniform

The Federal Government has denied reports that it has approved Adire as the new uniform for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, clarified the issue on Thursday after reports emerged following his appearance on Channels Television.

He said Adire was mentioned only as one of several proposals being considered as part of ongoing NYSC reforms and not as a final decision.

“I mentioned Adire. I also mentioned Ankara. They were only examples of proposals under consideration. No fabric has been adopted or approved to replace the current NYSC uniform,” the minister said.

Olawande explained that the government is still consulting stakeholders and reviewing different options based on durability, functionality, cost, professionalism and national identity.

He also urged Nigerians to focus on the broader NYSC reforms, which aim to improve corps members’ employability, promote entrepreneurship and strengthen national integration.

The minister assured Nigerians that no decision has been made on a new uniform.
