Former Gerard Piqué has been handed a two-month suspension by the Spanish Football Federation following a confrontation with a referee after a recent match involving his club, FC Andorra.
The incident occurred after Andorra’s 1-0 loss to Albacete Balompié, where Piqué—now a co-owner of the club—reportedly directed threatening remarks at match official Alonso de Ena Wolf. According to the referee’s report cited by BBC Sport, the former defender allegedly warned the official to leave with protection and suggested he could face violence elsewhere.
A disciplinary panel ruled that Piqué’s conduct constituted “public acts that undermine sporting dignity and decorum,” warranting the suspension.
The fallout extended beyond Piqué, with club president Ferran Vilaseca receiving a four-month ban, while sporting director Jaume Nogués was also sanctioned.
Andorra currently sit 10th in Spain’s second-tier league.
Piqué enjoyed a decorated playing career, winning multiple titles with FC Barcelona and representing Spain national football team, where he lifted both the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012.
