Gunmen Attack Ekiti Church, Kill Pastor, Abduct Worshippers

Suspected bandits have attacked a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, killing a pastor and abducting several worshippers during a revival programme.

The attack reportedly occurred on Tuesday evening at about 6:45 p.m. while members had gathered for a special church service.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen stormed the church, opened fire on the congregation and killed the revivalist, identified simply as Pastor Aregbe. Several other worshippers were also reportedly injured in the attack.

Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government, Pius Alaba, confirmed the incident, saying many people were still missing and the exact number of abducted victims had yet to be determined.

According to him, information from the church pastor in charge revealed that while some worshippers escaped into nearby bushes, others were shot during the attack.

Alaba also confirmed that the slain pastor’s body had been deposited at a morgue.

Security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
