No fewer than 11 persons have been confirmed dead following a renewed clash between Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The Nasarawa State Police Command said the violence, which erupted in the early hours of Friday, also led to the destruction of dozens of homes.
Police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed in a statement that about 50 houses were burnt in Akyawa, while two others were razed in Udege Kasa during what is believed to be a reprisal attack over the killing of two individuals.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, visited the affected communities, commiserated with victims, and ordered a manhunt for those responsible.
Security has since been reinforced in the area with joint deployment of police, military, and civil defence personnel to prevent further violence.
While the police say calm has been restored, residents expressed fears over continued attacks, alleging that suspected bandits had earlier been sighted in nearby communities.
The latest violence comes barely 48 hours after a similar attack in Sabon Gida, raising fresh concerns over worsening insecurity in the area.
