Atiku, Obi, Ribadu Attend El-Rufai Mother’s Funeral in Abuja

Top political figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, were among dignitaries who attended the janazah prayers for Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, in Abuja on Sunday.

The funeral prayers took place at the National Mosque Abuja and drew a host of prominent figures, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.

Videos circulating online showed Obi and Ribadu arriving at the mosque, exchanging greetings with mourners before joining the congregation for the Islamic rites.

Atiku confirmed his attendance in a post on X, expressing condolences to the El-Rufai family and praying for the deceased’s admission into Aljannah Firdaus.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai died on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, where she had been receiving treatment for an age-related illness. Several prominent Nigerians, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had earlier paid tribute to her.
