NIS Announces Passport Platform Shutdown for 48-Hour System Maintenance

The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced that its Passport Digital Platform will undergo routine maintenance, a move that will temporarily disrupt services for users.

In a public notice issued on Friday and signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the NIS said the maintenance exercise will run from 12:00 a.m. on 12 December to 6:00 a.m. on 14 December 2025 (GMT).

According to the notice, the upgrade is intended to enhance system performance and improve the overall user experience. During the window, users may encounter service interruptions, slow response times, or limited access to selected passport services.

The agency appealed for public understanding, noting that the exercise is crucial to maintaining a secure and efficient digital passport ecosystem.

“Our technical teams are working round the clock to ensure full service restoration within the stated timeframe,” it added.

The NIS also advised users who require support during the maintenance period to reach out via support@immigration.gov.ng or through its verified social media accounts.

In a related update, the Service announced the activation of temporary complaint-response channels following the recent takedown of its support accounts.

Applicants experiencing difficulties with passport or visa processes can now lodge complaints through the temporary X handles @InquireAtNaija, @nigimmigration, @InquireAtNaija_, as well as via Instagram.
