The Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed concern over the growing influx of able-bodied men and women posing as beggars and mentally challenged persons in Akure and other parts of the state.
The resolution was reached at the union’s June Congress held at the Press Centre in Akure and contained in a communiqué signed by the Council Secretary, Olaoluwa Meshack.
The Congress said the increasing number of unidentified persons moving freely across the state poses security concerns and urged the Ondo State Government and security agencies to strengthen surveillance, profile suspicious individuals and take proactive steps to prevent security breaches.

The NUJ also called on the Federal Government to address manpower shortages in the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Voice of Nigeria (VON).
The union commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Akure flyover, but urged the government to improve traffic management, speed up road projects and address the state’s worsening waste management system.
The Congress also congratulated Senator Adedayo Faduyile on his victory in the Ondo South Senatorial bye-election.
