The Federal Government has secured fresh commitments from the United States to deepen security cooperation as abductions and violent attacks surge nationwide.
The assurances followed high-level meetings led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu with senior U.S. officials across the Congress, State Department and National Security Council.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said Washington pledged enhanced intelligence sharing, quicker defence equipment processing and possible transfer of excess military assets. The Nigerian delegation also dismissed genocide allegations, insisting that violence affects all communities regardless of faith or ethnicity.
Both countries agreed to activate a new cooperation framework and set up a Joint Working Group to coordinate security initiatives. The U.S. further offered humanitarian support for Middle Belt communities and technical aid to improve early-warning systems.
