Ex-CCT Chairman Danladi Umar Granted ₦100m Bail in EFCC Trial

Former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, has been granted bail in the sum of ₦100 million by a Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja.

Justice Peter Kekemeke, who presided over the case, ordered Umar to provide one surety in the same amount. The surety must also possess a valid Certificate of Occupancy.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Umar on a four-count charge, accusing him of conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as Chairman of the CCT.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

At the hearing, Umar’s counsel urged the court to grant bail on liberal terms, arguing that the former CCT chairman had earlier been granted administrative bail by the EFCC and never violated its conditions. The defence also maintained that Umar consistently honoured the Commission’s invitations throughout the investigation.

The prosecution opposed the application, contending that Umar was a flight risk and could interfere with prosecution witnesses, some of whom worked under him during his tenure as CCT chairman.

In his ruling, Justice Kekemeke held that the prosecution failed to establish that the defendant was likely to abscond or interfere with witnesses. He consequently granted the bail application.

The court adjourned the case until October 29, 2026, for further hearing.

Umar will remain at the Kuje Custodial Centre until he fulfils the bail conditions.
