Amaechi Rejects ADC Presidential Primary Results, Alleges Massive Disenfranchisement

A former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress presidential primaries, alleging widespread voter disenfranchisement and electoral malpractice.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, Amaechi described the results being announced by the African Democratic Congress as “concocted,” insisting he would only accept a process that was free, fair and transparent.

According to him, a large number of party members were denied the opportunity to vote during the exercise.

“There’s no way that about eighty per cent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he said.

Amaechi accused the party leadership of abandoning the values the ADC claimed to represent, adding that the party could not criticise the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission over alleged electoral malpractice while engaging in similar acts.

He maintained that the ADC was created to provide Nigerians with a fair and inclusive political platform.

Although the party is yet to officially announce the final collated results from the 36 states and the FCT, early figures showed Atiku Abubakar leading the contest, with Amaechi in second place and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen trailing behind.
