Viral Video: Nigerian Woman Gets Millions After Celebrating Unfinished Home

A Nigerian woman, Joy Asiwaju, has received widespread financial support after a heartfelt video of her celebrating her family’s uncompleted home went viral on social media.

In the clip, Joy—who described herself as a baker and mother of three—joyfully toured the unfinished three-bedroom building, acknowledging the absence of basic fittings like water closets while expressing gratitude for the milestone. Her optimism quickly resonated online, drawing both admiration and concern over living conditions.

As the video gained traction, several public figures stepped in with financial support. Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba, actress Tonto Dikeh, and music executive Ubi Franklin each pledged and delivered ₦1 million to support the completion of the house, while other Nigerians also contributed, including offers to install key facilities.

Joy later shared clips of her previous apartment, highlighting poor living conditions, and defended herself against critics, stating she would rather seek help than “die in silence.”

By Monday, she confirmed that construction had resumed, with materials already delivered to the site, expressing gratitude to donors and optimism that the project would soon be completed.
