Zamfara Rolls Out 5,000+ Fertiliser Bags Under Dry-Season Support Programme

Dauda Lawal has launched the distribution of fertilisers and other farm inputs to support dry-season farming across Zamfara State.

The rollout, held Thursday at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Fadama III facility in Gusau, includes 3,920 bags of NPK fertiliser, 1,956 bags of urea, 3,920 litres of herbicide, 1,956 litres of insecticide and 3,920 sachets of seed-dressing chemicals.

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, the intervention is aimed at boosting crop yields, reducing post-harvest losses and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Lawal said the initiative forms part of his administration’s broader plan to increase agricultural productivity, improve food security and strengthen livelihoods in the state.

He noted that the NG-CARES programme has helped the state achieve measurable gains in the sector, particularly among smallholder farmers who have benefited from improved seeds, agrochemicals and agronomic support in previous years.

The governor assured that while support for farmers continues, his administration will also strengthen security to address challenges affecting agricultural production. He acknowledged the backing of development partners and the Federal Government in implementing the NG-CARES programme.
