FG Orders NAFDAC to Suspend Enforcement on Sachet Alcohol Ban

The Federal Government has ordered the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to suspend all enforcement actions related to the proposed ban on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottles.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Terrence Kuanum, said the directive followed concerns raised by the SGF’s office and the National Security Adviser over the security and economic impact of continued enforcement without a fully implemented National Alcohol Policy.

The government also directed NAFDAC to stop sealing factories and warehouses, warning that what it described as a “de facto ban” was disrupting jobs and supply chains nationwide.

It said a final decision would be taken after consultations, policy coordination and review of legislative resolutions, assuring stakeholders that public health, economic stability and national security would guide the outcome.
