FG Hails Funke Akindele as Behind the Scenes Breaks ₦2bn Box Office Record

The Federal Government has congratulated Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele over the record-breaking box office performance of her latest movie, Behind the Scenes.

In a statement shared on its X handle on Monday, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) described the feat as a major boost for Nigeria’s creative industry and a strong signal of the growing global acceptance of Nigerian stories.

According to the agency, Behind the Scenes has surpassed ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, becoming the first Nollywood film to cross the ₦2 billion mark.

The film also recorded international earnings of $111,256 in Canada and $190,249 across North America, extending its reach beyond local cinemas.

The NOA noted that the achievement further cements Akindele’s status as the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years, describing the milestone as a proud moment for Nigeria’s cultural and creative sectors.
