The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said Rivers State will not repeat what he described as a leadership mistake in the 2027 elections.
Wike made the statement on Tuesday during a thank-you visit to Khana community in Bori, Khana Local Government Area. He said leaders who failed to appreciate past opportunities would not be rewarded again.
“We will not make a mistake again,” he said, adding that political slogans do not guarantee automatic tickets. “You must work and earn it.”
Although he did not mention Governor Siminalayi Fubara by name, the remarks come amid their ongoing power struggle over Rivers State’s political structure, which previously led to a state of emergency lifted in September 2025.
Wike also said Fubara’s recent support for President Bola Tinubu did not guarantee a second-term ticket.
He urged residents to ignore party differences and support Tinubu in 2027, saying politics in Rivers is now about the Renewed Hope agenda, not party labels.
Wike thanked the people of Khana for their support in 2023 and said the community has since benefited from federal appointments, road projects, the Federal University of Environment, and the presidential pardon for the Ogoni Nine.
