Many worshippers were killed on Wednesday evening after an explosion ripped through the Gambarou Jumu’at Mosque in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Survivors said the attacker gained access to the mosque and detonated the device during the Maghrib congregational prayer, shortly after worship began. The blast claimed several lives and left others injured.
Security operatives and emergency responders were deployed to the scene, while the injured were taken to nearby medical facilities. As of the time of reporting, authorities had yet to release an official casualty figure.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, suspicion has turned toward the Boko Haram armed group, which has carried out a series of similar attacks across the region in recent months.
