Governor Umo Eno Bags National Excellence Award for Sustainable Development, Community Empowerment

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, is set to receive the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) for his contributions to sustainable development and community empowerment. The honour comes just three days after the International Press Institute Nigeria listed him in its “book of infamy” over alleged repression of journalists.

According to a statement from the Akwa Ibom Government House Press Unit on Saturday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will confer the award on Governor Eno today (Sunday) at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

The award ceremony is organised by The Best Strategic Media (TBS) in partnership with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The governor’s nomination was communicated in an official letter signed by M. S. Danjuma, Permanent Secretary (General Services Office), on behalf of the SGF.

“Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has been nominated and is set to attend the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service where he will receive the Distinguished Award for Excellence in Sustainable Development and Community Empowerment,” the statement read.

The government further highlighted Governor Eno’s commitment to inclusive governance, sustainable development, and programmes that have strengthened the state’s rural economy. It pointed to the impact of his ARISE Agenda, especially in agriculture, rural infrastructure, security sector support, public sector efficiency, and social welfare initiatives targeted at vulnerable communities.

“This recognition underscores the governor’s dedication to building resilient communities and expanding opportunities across the state,” the statement added.
