Adeleke Declares Total Lockdown in Igbajo Community as Violence Erupts

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Igbajo in the Boluwaduro Local Government Area after violent clashes erupted in the community overnight. The unrest, which broke out late Sunday and stretched into Monday morning, is tied to rising tensions following the death of Prince Adegboyega Famodun, who passed away last week after a brief illness.

The directive was announced in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi. Adeleke condemned the violence and ordered an immediate lockdown of the town, declaring that his administration would not tolerate any form of civil disorder capable of destabilising the peace currently enjoyed across the state.

He warned that anyone instigating or participating in actions that could escalate the crisis would face legal consequences. The governor expressed dismay over the breakdown of order and affirmed that his government remains committed to upholding the rule of law.

Adeleke also directed security agencies including the Army, Police, DSS and Civil Defence Corps to maintain round-the-clock surveillance in Igbajo to prevent further disturbances. The statement stressed that both natives and non-natives must adhere to peace directives, adding that any individual caught engaging in acts that could reignite chaos will be prosecuted.

The crisis follows the passing of Famodun, a former chairman of the Osun All Progressives Congress and the embattled 30th Owa of Igbajo. Installed in 2022 at the end of the Adegboyega Oyetola administration, he was later removed through an executive order issued by Adeleke, who replaced him with Oba Ademola Makinde. In January 2025, the Osun State High Court reinstated Famodun, but the ruling remains under appeal.
